Ten Dollar Expedited Fee for Same Day Service

Yuma County charges a $10 expedited fee for same day birth certificate service. This is unique among Arizona counties. Most counties either offer same day service at no extra charge or do not offer it at all. If you need a birth certificate the same day you visit, you pay $20 for the certificate plus $10 for expedited processing. Your total cost is $30. Staff will process your request while you wait and give you the birth certificate before you leave.

If you do not need same day service, you can skip the $10 expedited fee. Standard in person processing takes three business days. You visit the office, submit your application, and come back three business days later to pick up your birth certificate. You pay only the $20 certificate fee with no expedited fee. This saves you $10 if you can wait three days. The expedited fee applies to birth certificates only. Death certificates have different processing times and fees.

Standard Processing Times

Standard processing for in person birth certificate requests takes three business days in Yuma County. This is faster than many counties that take one to two weeks. If you submit your application on Monday, you can pick up your certificate on Thursday. If you submit on Friday, you can pick up on Wednesday of the next week. This quick turnaround is almost as fast as same day service but saves you the $10 expedited fee.

Mail requests take ten business days to process. This is about two weeks. Mail your application to the office at 2200 W. 28th Street, Room 256, Yuma, AZ 85364. The county will process your request and mail the birth certificate back to you. Factor in mailing time on both ends. From the day you mail your request to the day you receive your certificate might be three to four weeks total. If you can visit in person, the three day processing time is much faster than mailing.

Issues ALL Arizona Birth Records

Yuma County can issue birth certificates for any Arizona birth, not just births in Yuma County. This is standard for Arizona counties through the statewide database, but Yuma County specifically advertises this capability. If you were born anywhere in Arizona and live in or near Yuma County, the Yuma office can help you. You do not need to travel to the county where you were born or contact the state office in Phoenix.

The county connects to the statewide Arizona vital records database. This system holds all birth records for the state from July 1909 to now. Staff can look up and print a birth certificate for any Arizona birth. All Arizona birth certificates have the same format and security features. Each certificate includes a raised seal and the registrar's signature. These features make the document official for use anywhere.

No Online Orders at County Level

Yuma County does not accept online orders directly. You must apply in person or by mail. This is different from the state system, which offers online ordering through VitalChek. If you want to order a birth certificate online, you need to use VitalChek rather than trying to order through the Yuma County website. VitalChek is the state's official vendor and processes online orders for all Arizona counties.

The lack of county level online ordering means you have two options. Visit the Yuma office in person at 2200 West 28th Street for standard three day processing or pay $10 extra for same day service. Or mail your request and wait ten business days for processing plus mailing time. If neither option works for you, use VitalChek online. VitalChek charges service fees but may be faster than Yuma County's mail processing.

Who Can Request Birth Records

Arizona law limits who can get birth certificates. You must be an eligible requester under state statute. The person named on the birth certificate can get their own record if they are 18 or older or an emancipated minor. Parents listed on the certificate can request copies at any time. A spouse can get a copy if they show a marriage certificate. Grandparents, adult children, and adult siblings may request copies if they prove their family relationship to the registrant.

Legal guardians and conservators need a court order showing their authority. Attorneys can request records if they represent an eligible party and provide proof. Government agencies can get copies for official purposes. Some youth age 16 and 17 can request their own birth certificate if they are in DCS custody or homeless. All requesters must show valid photo ID. You also need documents that prove your relationship to the person on the birth certificate unless you are requesting your own record.

Service for Border Community

Yuma County sits on the border with Mexico. Many residents cross between Yuma and San Luis Rio Colorado for work, family, or shopping. Birth certificates are often needed for international travel, visa applications, and other cross border purposes. The same day expedited service for a $10 fee makes it easier for residents to get birth certificates quickly when they need them for travel or other urgent matters.

If you need a birth certificate for travel to Mexico or another country, request a certified copy. Non-certified copies are not valid for international use. The certified copy has a raised seal and the registrar's signature. These security features are recognized by foreign governments and border authorities. Bring your passport or other travel documents when you apply so staff can verify your identity and need for the record.

Vital Records for City of Yuma

Yuma County includes the city of Yuma, which has a population over 100,000. The city does not operate its own vital records office. All residents use the county vital statistics office at 2200 West 28th Street. The office is centrally located in Yuma and easy to reach from most parts of the city. Same day expedited service for $10 makes it convenient for city residents who need a birth certificate quickly.

VitalChek Online Service

Arizona offers online ordering for birth certificates through VitalChek at www.vitalchek.com. VitalChek is the state's official online vendor. The service is available 24 hours a day. You pay by credit or debit card. VitalChek charges service fees on top of the $20 state fee. Shipping costs extra. Expedited delivery is available for a higher price.

Online orders require you to upload a photo ID. The system checks your identity and verifies you are eligible to get the record. If approved, your order goes to a county or state office for processing. The birth certificate is mailed to your address. Standard delivery takes about one week. This may be faster than Yuma County's ten business day mail processing time. Online ordering is a good option if you cannot visit the Yuma office in person and need a birth certificate faster than mailing a request directly to the county.

Other Arizona Counties

Yuma County borders La Paz County to the north and Pima County to the east. If you live in the northern part of Yuma County near the La Paz County line, you might find it easier to visit the La Paz County office in Parker. However, La Paz County has limited birth certificate services and may refer some requests to the state. Pima County has two offices in Tucson but is experiencing long mail processing delays. Yuma County's three day standard processing is competitive with other Arizona counties.

Visit our pages for La Paz County and Pima County to learn about their vital records services. You can view all 15 Arizona counties on our counties page.
