Yuma Quick Facts
Yuma County Office Serves City
Yuma uses the Yuma County vital records system. The office is at 2200 West 28th Street, Room 256, in Yuma. Hours are Monday through Friday from 8am to 4pm for transactions. After 4pm until 5pm, staff provide information only and do not process requests. Same day service is available with a $10 expedited fee. Without the expedited fee, in person requests take three business days. This is faster than many counties but slower than same day service.
The county does not accept online orders directly. You must apply in person or by mail. For online ordering, use VitalChek. Learn more at www.yumacountyaz.gov/government/health-district/divisions/vital-statistics.
Ten Dollar Expedited Fee Option
Yuma County charges $10 for same day expedited service on birth certificates. This is unique among Arizona counties. If you need a birth certificate the same day, you pay $20 for the certificate plus $10 for expedited processing. Total cost is $30. Staff process your request while you wait. If you can wait three business days, skip the expedited fee and pay only $20. The three day standard processing is still faster than many counties.
Border Community Services
Yuma sits on the border with Mexico. Many residents cross between Yuma and San Luis Rio Colorado regularly. Birth certificates are often needed for international travel and visa applications. The same day expedited service helps residents get birth certificates quickly when needed for travel. For international use, request a certified copy with the raised seal and registrar signature.
Fees and Payment
Birth certificates cost $20 each. Same day expedited service adds $10. Amendments cost $30. The county accepts cash in person, money orders, cashier checks, debit cards with a $3.95 fee, and credit cards with a 2.49 percent fee. For mail, use money orders or cashier checks. Do not send cash by mail.
Eligibility Requirements
Arizona law limits who can get birth certificates. You must be an eligible requester. The person on the birth certificate can get their own record if they are 18 or older. Parents can request copies anytime. A spouse can get a copy with a marriage certificate. Grandparents, adult children, and adult siblings may request copies with proof of relationship. All requesters must show valid photo ID.
Online Ordering Available
You can order Arizona birth certificates online through VitalChek at www.vitalchek.com. VitalChek is the state's official online vendor available 24 hours a day. Service fees and shipping apply on top of the $20 state fee. Standard delivery takes about one week, which may be faster than Yuma County's ten business day mail processing.
