The county vital records website explains the two week processing time and provides contact information for the Kingman office.

Two Week Processing Time

Mohave County does not offer same day service for birth certificates. All requests take up to two weeks to process. This applies to walk in applications, mail requests, and drop box submissions. Staff process requests in the order they are received. They verify each application, check your eligibility, and confirm the birth record exists in the state database. Once approved, they print and certify the birth certificate. The county will call you when your certificate is ready for pickup, or they will mail it to you if you requested that option.

The two week processing time means you must plan ahead. If you need a birth certificate for travel, school enrollment, or any deadline, apply at least three weeks before you need the document. This gives time for processing plus a buffer in case there are any delays. Call 928-753-0748 to check on your request if you have not heard back after two weeks. Staff can tell you the status and when to expect your birth certificate to be ready.

Note: If you need a birth certificate faster than two weeks, consider using VitalChek online or visiting a neighboring county that offers same day service.

How to Request Birth Certificates

You can apply for birth certificates in person, by mail, or using the drop box in Mohave County. For in person requests, visit 700 West Beale Street in Kingman during office hours. Bring a valid photo ID such as a driver license or state ID card. If you are requesting someone else's birth certificate, bring documents that prove your relationship to that person. Fill out form VS-11 at the office or download it ahead of time from the county website. Staff will review your application and documents. If everything is in order, they will accept your request and tell you to expect the certificate to be ready in up to two weeks.

Mail requests work the same way. Download form VS-11 and fill it out completely. Sign the form. Include a copy of your photo ID. Do not send your original ID card. Add payment. Mohave County accepts credit and debit cards, money orders, and cashier checks. They do not accept personal checks. For mail, include a money order or cashier check. You can also include credit card information if the county accepts cards by mail. Mail your request to P.O. Box 7000, Kingman, AZ 86402-7000. Processing takes up to two weeks after the office receives your application, plus mailing time on both ends.

The drop box option lets you submit applications after hours. Fill out your form at home. Include copies of your ID and relationship documents. Add payment as a money order or cashier check. Do not put cash or a credit card in the drop box. Put everything in an envelope and drop it in the box. Staff will process drop box requests in up to two weeks just like walk in and mail requests. The county will contact you when your birth certificate is ready.

Birth Certificate Costs and Payment

Certified birth certificates cost $20 each in Mohave County. This matches the standard Arizona state fee. Each additional copy also costs $20. Amendments or corrections cost $30. Non-certified copies for genealogy research cost $5, which is less than certified copies but these cannot be used for legal purposes.

Mohave County accepts credit and debit cards, money orders, cashier checks, and exact cash. They do not accept personal checks. If you pay by card, a fee may apply. If you pay cash in person, bring exact change if possible. Staff may not have change for large bills. For mail and drop box requests, use a money order or cashier check. Do not send cash or personal checks. Make payment payable to Mohave County for the correct amount.

Service for Lake Havasu City and Bullhead City

Mohave County includes Lake Havasu City and Bullhead City, two of the larger cities in western Arizona. Residents of these cities must use the Kingman vital records office. There are no satellite offices in Lake Havasu City or Bullhead City. This means residents may need to drive over an hour to reach the Kingman office. The drive from Lake Havasu City to Kingman is about 60 miles. The drive from Bullhead City to Kingman is about 100 miles.

Mail or drop box requests may be more convenient for residents who live far from Kingman. Since the county does not offer same day service even for walk ins, there is no advantage to driving to Kingman unless you need to ask staff questions in person. Mail your request and wait for the county to process it and mail the birth certificate back to you. The total time is about the same as driving to Kingman, applying, waiting two weeks, and driving back to pick up the certificate.

After Hours Drop Boxes

Drop boxes are available at the Mohave County vital records office in Kingman. You can use these boxes to submit applications when the office is closed. This is helpful if you work during office hours or cannot visit in person during the limited hours. Fill out your application form at home. Include copies of your ID and relationship documents. Add payment as a money order or cashier check. Put everything in an envelope and drop it in the box.

Staff check the drop boxes regularly during business hours. Your request will be processed in the order it was received, along with walk in and mail applications. Processing takes up to two weeks. The county will call you when your birth certificate is ready. You can then pick it up at the office or ask staff to mail it to you. Make sure you write a clear phone number on your application so staff can reach you when the certificate is ready.

Who Can Get Birth Certificates

Arizona law limits who can request birth certificates. You must be an eligible requester under state statute. The person named on the birth certificate can get their own record if they are 18 or older or an emancipated minor. Parents listed on the certificate can request copies at any time. A spouse can get a copy if they show a marriage certificate. Grandparents, adult children, and adult siblings may request copies if they prove their family relationship to the registrant.

Legal guardians and conservators need a court order showing their authority. Attorneys can request records if they represent an eligible party and provide proof. Government agencies can get copies for official purposes. Some youth age 16 and 17 can request their own birth certificate if they are in DCS custody or homeless. All requesters must show valid photo ID. You also need documents that prove your relationship to the person on the birth certificate unless you are requesting your own record.

Access to All Arizona Birth Records

Mohave County connects to the statewide Arizona vital records database. This central system holds all birth records for the state from July 1909 to now. County staff can look up and print a birth certificate for any Arizona birth. You do not have to visit the county where you were born. If you were born in Phoenix but live in Lake Havasu City, the Mohave County office in Kingman can issue your birth certificate. This statewide access makes vital records services available to everyone in Arizona.

All Arizona birth certificates have the same format and security features no matter which county issues them. Each certificate includes a raised seal and the registrar's signature. These features make the document official for use anywhere in the United States or abroad. Schools, employers, passport offices, and government agencies accept birth certificates from any Arizona county as valid proof of birth and identity.

VitalChek Online Service

Arizona offers online ordering for birth certificates through VitalChek at www.vitalchek.com. VitalChek is the state's official online vendor. The service is available 24 hours a day. You pay by credit or debit card. VitalChek charges service fees on top of the $20 state fee. Shipping costs extra. Expedited delivery is available for a higher price if you need the certificate quickly.

Online orders may be processed faster than requests through the Mohave County office. VitalChek sends orders to county or state offices for processing. Standard delivery takes about one week. This is faster than the up to two week processing time at Mohave County, though VitalChek fees make it more expensive. Online ordering is a good option if you live in Lake Havasu City or Bullhead City and want to avoid the drive to Kingman.
